During the procedure, a small handheld device called a transducer is moved gently over the skin after a layer of gel is applied. This gel improves contact and helps produce clear images. The transducer sends sound waves into the body, which bounce back as echoes to create detailed images displayed on a monitor. Ultrasound is safe, involves no radiation, and has no known side effects. Most pets remain calm and do not require sedation, though light sedation may be used if needed for comfort. To ensure the best image quality, we typically shave the fur in the area being examined.
